Cantwell Lodge
Welcome
Come home to Cantwell
The original Cantwell Roadhouse was built by John Carlson in the mid-1930's. Copper River Natives moved West from the Valdez Creek gold mining district looking for work on the railroad construction. After two log buildings burned, the Butler Building was erected in 1955-56.
Cantwell Lodge is in blue jeans and tennis shoe country. We offer a relaxed and homey atmosphere. Adventurous spirits will enjoy the magnificent beauty, the abundant wildlife, and the slower pace of Alaska -- as the locals experience it.

In 1993 and more than six owners later, Keith and Armeda Bulard bought the Lodge. Armeda and her children, Mike and Janet Brooks and Chris and Davida Bulard, continue the operation and expansion of Cantwell Lodge.
The Lodge is located 27 miles south of the entrance to Denali National Park. Mt McKinley is in Cantwell's backyard with excellent views from many places in the immediate area. Cantwell can be reached from Anchorage and Fairbanks by car and private aircraft. The 2,200' long airstrip is located across the railroad tracks from the Lodge and offers summer access.
Motel rooms, camping, showers and laundromat are available year around. There is a large turn around parking area for oversized vehicles.
Local summer activites include: fishing, hiking, flight seeing, river boat tours, horseback riding, photography, berry picking , or just relaxing. Winter activities include: snow machining, skiing, snow boarding, dog mushing and ski-jouring. These activities are all within a 30 mile radius of the Cantwell Lodge.
